Dr. Yekeia Askins-Trent
Dr. Yekeia Askins-Trent brings 24 years of unwavering commitment to te field of education. Her journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Professional English from South Carolina State University, followed by a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley University. She further honed her expertise with a Master of Science in Administration and Supervision from Arkansas State University and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Argosy University. She is currently pursuing her Juris Doctorate in Education Law at North Carolina Central University.
Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Askins-Trent has worn many hats while working in the field of education. She has worked as an English Language Arts Teacher, a TAP Master Teacher, a Read to Succeed Literacy Coach, a secondary Reading Specialist, and a Subject Matter Expert for the SC State Department of Education. Most recently, she served as a district-level Academic Coach with the Public Schools of Robeson County.
Now, Dr. Askins-Trent is thrilled to join the Johnakin Middle School family as the Assistant Principal, the same school where she once taught as a 6th grade English Language Arts teacher. In her newest role, she aims to foster a school community where there is collaboration amongst staff, students, and the community. Her favorite educational quote encapsulates her philosophy: "The purpose of learning is growth, and our minds, unlike our bodies, can continue to grow as we continue to live."
