Backpack Buddies of Marion County showed their appreciation for their community and student volunteers after another successful year serving food insecure students each weekend throughout the school year. The group enjoyed food and fellowship, along with making plans for next school year.
The Delta Sigma Theta Soritory provided lunch for MaHS Staff today in recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week.

Employability students from Marion High collected 8 bags of trash from the school grounds over 2 days in celebration of Earth Day.
Please note the following information on the track meet:
Marion HS will host the region track meet here on Wednesday, April 24 starting @2pm.
Admission will be $7 to the meet. MHS & JMS students will be 2 for 1 price after school is dismissed.
Concession stand will be available.
Only SCHSL passes will be honored for the track meet. No Booster Club or MCSD passes accepted.
MHS, JMS, MIS, EPS faculty & staff are admitted free with school ID.
MHS student volunteers must meet academic & discipline requirements to help with the track meet. Student volunteers will be required to wear orange colored vests to work the track meet.

On April 11, 2019, 222 students were rewarded with pizza for earning A and A/B honor roll for the 3rd nine weeks from a group of supporting parents and community members. Congratulations to the Shy’Tyra Evan, Khia Edwards and Hailey Springs!!!!!! They are the Swamp Fox Winners. These students were selected from a pool of 225 A and A/B Honor roll students from 2nd quarter for gift drawings. The gift drawing consisted of two $20.00 gift cards and a 43 inch television. Shy’Tyra Evans and Khia Edwards received a gift card. Hailey Spring won the television. Thanks to Marion High School’s anonymous sponsor “New Year New Things” for donating these gifts to our school.

MaHS Ring Ceremony!
Tim Perkins second-vice president of SCACA presented a donation of $1,000 from SCACA to Principal Dr. Daris Gore and Athletic Director Mr. Brian Hennecy of Marion High School. The donation will help with damages caused by the hurricane.
MaHS Black History Program
Marion High School held a Black History Program Thursday February 28, 2019. The program focused on The History: Past, Present and Future. A few highlights from the program included the singing of the National Anthem by Miss Kiyauna Garner, the singing of “Lift Every Voice” by everyone, the reading of the Black History Essay by Miss Aundrea Gibbons (MaHs winning essay for the Dr. Martin Luther King Day), the remarks by the guest speaker Rev. Marvin Hemingway and the recognition of African American Leaders of the Past, Present and Future.
On Thursday, February 21, 2019, nine members and the sponsor of Marion High School’s Interact Club traveled to Myrtle Beach to accept The Lower Region Group Leadership Award from the South Carolina Litter Control Association for their efforts to keep Marion, SC beautiful and free from litter. Interact is a part of the
Adopt-A-Highway project, and twice a year members commit 2-3 hours of their time on a Saturday morning to clean up Green Street, and average collecting 48 bags of trash a year, along with several tires. James E. Turner, Code Enforcement Officer for Marion County nominated the group for their efforts.

The Science Club at Marion High School sponsored a valentine cafe. Students enjoyed fellowship and a variety of snacks during their lunch break.

Area high schools to receive grants from Carolina Panthers, Bank of America
The Carolina Panthers and Bank of America are giving $250,000 in Hurricane Florence disaster relief grants to 17 high schools in North and South Carolina. Marion High School was one of the 17 high school to receive a grant for $18,500.
The grants will help high school programs replace or repair equipment, supplies or athletic infrastructure lost or damaged during the storm. Grants given range from $3,000-$20,000 and were made by requests from schools and focused on the greatest needs.

Miss Morgan Wilson was crowned Miss Marion High, Aundrea Gibbons received the title of first runner-up, Niya McGill received the title of second runner-up, and Indya Laboy received the title of Miss Congeniality.

Marion County Schools represented our district well at the 42nd Annual Pee Dee Regional Mathematics Tournament on Tuesday, December 4, 2018.
The top four scoring schools Green Sea Floyds High School, Johnsonville High School, Marion High School, and Mullins High School advanced to the final on-stage part of the competition for Division 1. Top four scoring schools were selected based on a challenging one hour written exam. Marion High School's Mathematics team secured third place in the written competition of Division 1 and Mullins followed with fourth place. Creek Bridge is gaining ground. The top four scoring schools advanced to the final on-stage part of the competition. Top Scorer for Marion High School was Gabriel Watson followed by Sachin Patel. The schools went into a three way stage tie breaker round with Green Sea Floyds taking the win for Division 1 followed by Marion High placing second in points . All participants represented Marion well.
The News and Journalism Team will be sponsoring a Secret Santa delivery. Students and staff can purchase as many cards they would like, beginning December 4th-December 17th, to have delivered to a person or persons of choice. You can purchase the cards for $1 during all lunches. The Secret Santa delivery will be Wednesday December 19th just before leaving for Christmas break.

MaHS Science Club
MaHS Science Club visited Columbia College Saturday November 10th. They visited different classes such as dissecting shark and sheep brain, making bath bombs and arthropod classes. The students really enjoyed dissecting the sharks.

Backpack BuddiesWhen a community comes together, great things happen! Mrs. Paula Felix of Beneteau delivered a van load of food items for Backpack Buddies of Marion County School District. Seniors at Marion High School participated in College Application Day. Seniors had the opportunity to fill out college applications free of charge. The Guidance Department along with several local college admissions representatives were on hand to help the students with their applications.

The Adult Transition student in Mrs. Osborn's and Mrs. Thompson's class at Marion High School worded to "Speak Life" to their peers as they returned to school on Thrusday after Hurricane Florence. Kindness was spread amongst the tables in the cafeteria to let everyone know that someone was thinking of them.
We are working to provide for our students needs from the effects of Hurricane Florence. We are using backpack buddies to help distribute the products discretely. I am attaching the current list's link.This list willl change as needs are met and as the needs for our students change.Our students needs and safety are a first priority.
