Marion, SC, March 14, 2019–The Marion County School of Practical Nursing program is pleased to announce it has received a $4,875.00 grant from the Marion Healthcare Foundation. These funds will support a three-day test preparation course for the students’ certification exam. To become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) students are required to pass a very rigorous test after they have completed their educational program. “We are very excited to add this component to our program,” comments Shana Lee, Coordinator of the Practical Nursing Program. “With the generosity of the Marion Healthcare Foundation, we are able to offer this program to this year’s graduating class.” The idea for this program came from the programs recent visit from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) organization. Within the final report of approval, the concept of assistance for the board test was mentioned. Lee recognized the value of the recommendation and worked with the Academy for Careers and Technology Director Darrell Jamison to implement the idea. “Timing was an issue,” stated Jameson. “We needed money sooner than I was able to budget so the Healthcare Foundation came to our rescue.” The program will be built into the budget for subsequent years.
