Today, Mullins High School Student Council members and advisors visited The Shepherd's Table in Conway, SC. This nonprofit organization helps feed the homeless and poor of Horry County regardless of age, gender, color, or religion. The Shephard's Table feeds about 25 people lunch and close to 80 people dinner each night. Most of their contributions come from local businesses, churches, schools, as well as individual contributors.
Student Council members contributed to this organization in more ways than one. Students donated supplies such as can goods, paper goods, and snacks. While there, they cleaned, helped prepare lunch, and prepared more than 70 bags that will be picked up this evening by those in need so that they will have meals over the weekend.
The students saw first hand that everyone isn't fortunate to have a hot meal waiting for them at home. Also, students were encouraged to understand that there are still people in the world who care and make a difference. One day it may be their turn to step up and, with experiences like these, they will decide to make a difference in their own community.
