eLearning Information
What is an eLearning day?
The development and oversight of the eLearning program is the responsibility of the South Carolina Department of Education. Based on a review process, the South Carolina Department of Education may authorize districts to use up to five eLearning days to allow for the make up of short-term disruptions to in-person teaching and learning.
An eLearning day can be used on days that schools may have previously experienced a closure due to an unforeseen emergency or weather event. eLearning days allow for greater flexibility to avoid loss of instructional time due to school closings or to provide an alternate way to make-up lost instructional time.
What does an eLearning day look like for my student?
eLearning days and their structure vary by the grade-band of students. 3K and 4K students will complete packets of instructional materials, while teachers provide all-day live instructional support for those who need it. Elementary students will follow a strict live instructional schedule on Google Meet that ensures MCSD meets the daily requirement for both ELA and mathematics instructional minutes. Middle school students will participate in live Google Meets that mirror their traditional daily schedule with (8) periods a day. Lastly, high schools will provide live Google Meet instruction during its four block schedule. All schedules have been designed to maximize instructional time with students and to ensure learning continues in a virtual setting. All e-learning schedules by grade-band can be found on our district website.
What is the attendance policy for eLearning days?
Students in kindergarten through 12th grade will have attendance taken for eLearning days. Students who are not present on live Google Meets in 5K-12th grade will receive an unexcused absence for missing their Google Meet instruction. Students needs to be actively participating in class on Google Meet for the duration of the block to be counted as present.
Students in grades 5K - 12th that are more than (5) minutes late for their Google Meet will be marked as tardy.
Will my students have graded assignments during eLearning?
Elementary, middle, and high school students will be assigned graded work during eLearning. Students have (5) days to complete eLearning assignments; however, students will not receive credit for work completed after (5) days.
Students may NOT be assigned graded tests during e-learning days.
What if our power goes out or I need technical support?
If your family experiences a loss of power, please directly email your student’s principal when power resumes to explain your family circumstance.

Exceptional Education
● Students should take home a Chromebook in order to receive their scheduled related services.
● These students will take home an activity packet linked to their IEP goals. Students may need guidance from their parent or guardian to complete the activities
● Exceptional education teachers are expected to keep virtual office hours following their grade-band schedule and push into the classrooms of their students.
● Students should return the packet on the first day back to school. However, students have up to five days to return the completed packet. Students are marked absent for the eLearning day if the teacher does not receive the packet after the 5 day period.

Important Attendance Information for Grades Kindergarten through 12th
Attendance will be taken for all students.
For students to be counted as present, they must be active online during Google Meets.
Any student who logs in more than 5 minutes late will be marked tardy.
Students who do not log in, but complete the assignment within 5 days will receive credit for their work, but will still have an unexcused absence.
