Role of Your School Counselor

Announcements

  • Greetings and welcome to the Johnakin Middle School Counseling Office. Here, students will receive support for academics, social and emotional, and career development. I address the needs of the whole child. Using student and professional standards, my goal is to promote a school counseling program which ensures improved student outcomes. I also work collaborately with the members of our staff as well as the parents and guardians of our Johnakin students.

  • As we experience today's abnormalities of COVID-19, our students, staff members, and parents/guardians may need additional support. Our school and school district will provide curriculum for social emotional learning, referred to as SEL.

    What is SEL?

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

  • After-school Program Scholars, do you need assistance with your homework? Are you looking for small group instruction? Are you needing additional time on IXL or iReady? Then you should consider joining our Fox Time After Hours program. We operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (unless there is a conflict with a school event) from 3:30 PM – 5 PM. This supplemental tutoring and support is free to Johnakin scholars AND we provide a snack and bus transportation if applicable. We are looking to add interested scholars who are willing to work after normal school hours toward improving their academics and SCREADY/SCPASS scores. For additional information, please see Mrs. Sanders in the Guidance Department or see file below for an enrollment form. You must have a completed parent permission form on file to participate.
