Mrs. Rita Lewis Smith

Welcome to Marion High School and the 2020-2021 school year! We are the Home of the Mighty Swamp Foxes!

I am Rita Lewis Smith, Assistant Principal. For the last twenty-two years I have been a member of the Swamp Fox family!  Prior to becoming an Assistant Principal I served in the following capacities at Marion High; Business Education Teacher, Academic Support-Resource Teacher, and Administrative Assistant. This year begins my 29th year in education. Prior to coming to Marion High School I worked at Johnakin Middle School, JV Martin Junior High School, and Jasper County High School.

My educational background is as follows:  1986 I graduated from Mullins High School, 1990 I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, NC (now University), 1997 I earned a Masters Degree in Learning Disabilities from Francis Marion University and in 2011 a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Coastal Carolina University. I held National Board Certification from 2000-2020.

In addition to other administrative duties, this year I am responsible for discipline for all tenth grade students as well as any concerns or issues that may arise. I coordinate PSAT, ACT, and SAT testing, serve as lead for Social Emotional Learning and Capturing Kids Hearts, and I am the Varsity Cheer Coach.

Here at Marion High School, we are about the Business of Educating and Empowering our students. Our goal is for them to not only live and work productively in society but to prosper and become change agents for their communities and the world.  I am eager to work with our students and continue Marion High School’s proud tradition of Academic Excellence.
