Mrs. Rita Lewis Smith

Welcome to Marion High School and the 2021-2022 school year! We are the Home of the Mighty Swamp Foxes!

I am Rita Lewis Smith, Assistant Principal. For the last twenty-three years I have been a member of the Swamp Fox family!  Prior to becoming an Assistant Principal I served in the following capacities at Marion High; Business Education Teacher, Academic Support-Resource Teacher, and Administrative Assistant. This year begins my 30th year in education. Prior to coming to Marion High School I worked at Johnakin Middle School, JV Martin Junior High School, and Jasper County High School.

My educational background is as follows:  1986 I graduated from Mullins High School, 1990 I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, NC (now University), 1997 I earned a Masters Degree in Learning Disabilities from Francis Marion University and in 2011 a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Coastal Carolina University. I held National Board Certification from 2000-2020.

In addition to other administrative duties, I am responsible for discipline for all eleventh grade students as well as any concerns or issues that may arise. I serve as the school test coordinator for PSAT, ACT, SAT and EOC testing and lead for Social Emotional Learning. I am also the Varsity Cheer Coach.

Our theme this year is "Cultivating Excellence to Educate and Empower Students". Our goal is for them to not only live and work productively in society but to prosper and become change agents for their communities and the world.  I am eager to work with our students and continue Marion High School’s proud tradition of Academic Excellence!
